Unstoppable McKinney Wins Fairbury

Unstoppable Mike McKinney Wins at Fairbury American Legion Speedway

FAIRBURY, IL — June 23, 2018 — Coming off a spectacular Northern Kick Off Week some people had there doubts on Mike McKinney’s dominance. Those doubts were laid to rest at Fairbury American Legion Speedway on Saturday night. McKinney fended off all challengers to bring home his 4th Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals win this season.

“This was a big deal for us. It is one thing to go win, but to do it when there is this kind of competition it makes it special,” McKinney commented in the pits following his victory. “We really like racing here and this is the biggest event we have ever won here. It was good for my crew guys and made everyone see how good we are right now.”

McKinney was able to get an early jump in the night’s feature event though he was never able to stretch his lead to more then a few car lengths. At times the first 3 cars could be covered by a blanket as McKinney attempted to cover both high and low from the charging cars of Bobby Stremme and Levi Kissinger. Bobby Stremme would briefly slip by McKinney but was unable to hold the lead as McKinney was able to prevail in a middle line of the track.

Two-time 2018 tour winner Mike Harrison charged from the 15th starting position to the 4th spot. Harrison would challenge for the 3rd position late in the race but laps had run down leaving him in the 4th place position at the checkered flag ahead of 5th place finishing Steven Brooks.

Feature Finish: Mike McKinney, Bobby Stremme, Levi Kissinger, Mike Harrison, Steven Brooks, Jeff Leka, Nick Allen, Phil Dixon, Lucas Lee, Donovan Lodge, Gordy Gundaker, Allen Weisser, Jay Ledford, McKay Wenger, Alan Stipp, Gary Bentley, Nate Zimmer, Jeffrey Ledford, Jeff Curl, Kyle Byerline, Kyle Hammer, Ray Bollinger
